After staying 1 night in a hotel in El Chalten town we hired all of our gear from High Patagonia and began the 10km hike to the top of Laguna de Los Tres, one of the hardest hikes in El Chalten.
At the 8km point we camped the night at the Poincenot area. Collecting fresh water from the ice cold stream, cooking dinner and sleeping the night in the freezing cold with snow and wild birds all around.
Alex woke up early at around 5am to see the sunrise over Fitz Roy mountain and after breakfast we biked the final 2km to the very top of the Laguna de Los Tres.
The final 1km was very hard, it was very steep and a lot of clambering over rocks, boulders and precariously balancing on edges was involved.
But we finally made it and luckily had beautiful clear views across El Chalten’s many mountain ranges and lagoons.
We began the hike back down, packing up our tent and with very sore feet after 2 days of trekking, hiking and wilderness exploring we made it back to the town of El Chalten.
